Sir Christopher Slade

The Chapter of Felicity No 58 is sorry to announce that our Excellent Companion The Right Honourable Sir Christopher John Slade has passed to the Grand Lodge above.

Sir Christopher was born 2 June 1927 to George Penkivil Slade KC and Mary Albinia Alice Carnegie, and had two brothers Adrian Slade, the late Julian Slade and a sister, Pauline Albinia Slade.

He married Jane Buckley in 1958. The couple had four children.

He was educated at Eton before taking the Eldon Scholarship to New College.

He followed his father to the Bar. He was called by the Inner Temple in 1965. He was a Bencher of the Society of Lincolns Inn from 1973 and Treasurer in 1994. He served on the General Council of the Bar 1958-1962 and 1965-1969, the Senate of Four Inns of Court 1966-1969 and the Lord Chancellor’s Legal Education Committee 1969-1971. He was appointed as the Lord Justice of Appeal in 1982 serving until 1991, on the Appeal Committee of the Takeover Panel for eight years.

He was a Privy Councellor.

Sir Christopher was an Ironmonger, admitted to the Company by patrimony on 27 April 1950 and was called to the Livery in 1957becoming Master in 1973. He guided the Company as Senior Member for the past sixteen years.

He was a Past Master of Chancery Bar Lodge and exalted into this Chapter in 1968. He was a PJGW in Grand Lodge.

He died on 7 February 2022.
