Charles Edward Smith was born in 1841. He was initiated into the Lodge of Felicity No 58 in 1872, nominated by them as a Grand Steward in 1877 and installed as Worshipful Master in 1879.

Like his fellow founder Felix Knyvett he was also honoured with the rare privilege of being made Worshipful Master of the Grand Stewards’ Lodge, in his case in 1893 and was Master of Ceremonies of that lodge in 1888.

He lived in Muswell Hill and died in 1910.
